Molly - Pattern of a Body
or Model of a Woman
Molly cut into parts, incomplete, a puzzle composed in mind, in
separate parts, cut out, put together, pinned together.
Molly, the female image, the model “woman”, a man imagines a
picture of a woman - a stereotype in a certain way: Molly the sensual,
lustful woman, categorizing herself as not very intelligent, lazy, always
concerned with clothing, men, eroticism. Molly, the woman who is
always preoccupied by her appearance; who is the man she will
seduce?
Women make an appearance - men act. Illusion. Passive and active in
one person, Penelope – Molly, waiting for His returning, falling in sleep
at her side. Molly, a frustrated woman, a broken woman? Always
contemplated and created by the attention of the man, of the creator.
Molly an object d’art.
An idol, an icon? She is occupied with her body, with parts of her
body: the feet (bobbing up and down), the knee (dress),
bottom (chamber pot)…. And with clothing, of course, ( too tight…this
dress he bought me…)
Molly falls into separate parts, a new figure may be the result.
A picture of Marilyn Monroe, reading Molly’s monologue.
Molly, in her seduction, sensual.
In my work, I would like to give a form to this sensuality, to this
Puzzle: Molly the playful; the leaves refer to each other, 8 sentences,
eight pictures, eight parts of the body.
I The Dream, sleeping figure, partial view, (silence)/ sentence
II The Foot (bobbing up and down) sound
III The Torso from the side/ sentence
IV The Knee, with hand from outside, sound
V The Head, inspiration, connects the separate parts in itself,
model, sentence
VI The Torso, Eros, sound, play, sentence
VII Heart, Torso, Hand, (motion), sentence
VIII Lower Part of the Body, word, rhythm of the word “YES”
The cycle of the pictures is coordinated, inwards and outwards in
rotation, like a melody. The selection of the sounds and sentences
maintain this melody. The streaming sequence of the pictures
corresponds to the flowing style without dot and comma in Molly’s
interior monologue. The different kind of papers show the effect of
fabrics, “ haptic”: soft, tender, rough, smooth, partly with décor:
elegant, conventional, interspersed and the colours, chosen at each time:
pale, covered, bright, powerful.
The parts of the female body are lying on these papers or are in
relation to them. Molly is a beautiful woman, despite this brokenness,
this being split up.
My work is a homage to her as a literary character, and in this
sense to her vividness, her sensuality, her femininity, but also to her
brokenness.
